Last night I put on the front, the mountain shoes and signed up to the madness of the Burriac Atac!
The Burriac Atac! It is a night mountain race in the province of Barcelona.
It starts at the City Hall of Vilassar de Mar, undertakes a steep slope along indomitable roads until it reaches the castle of Burriac and finally vertiginously descending until it reaches the beach of Cabrera de Mar where a final stretch of 200 meters along the beach protected by torches awaits to the corridor after almost 17 kilometers in the dark.
The competition is organized by the Vilassar hiker center and yesterday its fourth edition was held with a tremendous success of more than 400 people. In some areas of the route it was impressive to look back and observe the infinite snake of lights that the participants created with their fronts through the forest.
Next year, if the physicist and the agenda allow it, I will return. Anyway, I will try to get a frontal in conditions since in certain technical descents I could see almost nothing and the stones and the roots of the trees waited hidden to make me stumble. I fell more than once although during the race I barely noticed. Of course, today I feel the blows and scars of the brambles and fatigue remind me that yesterday night was not just any night.
At the end of the race a row of torches were waiting for us in the sand of the beach of Cabrera, some sandwiches and a good friendly chat with the other participants. Undoubtedly, the mountain environment in races is far from the usual individualism that is usually seen in asphalt racing.
If you are fit, Burriac Atac! proposes an interesting introduction to mountain races suitable for all audiences. Of course, take a front in conditions and check that the batteries are well charged!
