The small lake that precedes the valley that leads to Franz Josef. Its water reflects the mountains and creates a spectacular view

This time we came from the north of the island but this time our first stop was the Fox glacier after traveling about 350 kilometers from Queenstow, via the Haast Pass.

Franz Josef Glacier

In 2004, on a sunny morning, we unconsciously ventured to climb part of the glacier on our own, but this time the weather did not accompany and when we arrived with the van at the entrance to the park, the guard told us that they were not admitted More visits due to bad weather.

I already knew him but Tati had to be content to see, in the distance and partially covered by fog, this giant tongue of ice that travel 13 kilometers descending from the mountains of the Southern Alps.

This is what we found when we reached the Fox barriers. They did not let us approach and the cold did not invite much.
